Retired? What’s Next?

Hi, my name is Tys Dammeyer. I’m an avid student of philosophy, health, longevity, quantum physics, spirituality and many other topics. My mission for this website is to share ideas, books, products and practices that have helped me navigate the road to ‘elderhood’.
Why use the term elder?
In many traditional cultures, elders held a special place in society. They were seen as repositories of wisdom and experience, guiding younger generations with their knowledge. This reverence for elders fostered a strong sense of community and continuity, as age brought not just years, but insight and understanding.
Today we see a shift in how we view our elders, especially in Western societies. With the hustle and bustle of modern life, the wisdom of older generations is often overlooked or undervalued. I’d like to change that, because the wisdom We gain through many years of living is worth sharing.
My Journey
In August, I will be celebrating my 74th birthday. That’s a significant milestone for me, because 26 years ago, my family celebrated my mother’s 74th. Two months later, we watched her draw her final breath.
Most elders have experienced a significant number of deaths. Parents, siblings, friends and sometimes even children…one by one they move on to a place we can only imagine, but have yet to experience. Each one takes a toll, and each one tempers the soul in some way.
My mother and I were very close. I could see the patterns in her life that led her to an early end, and I was determined not to repeat them. Therefore, I made some very big changes in my life. Those changes ultimately brought me to the USA, where I am now a proud and patriotic citizen.
Career Changes
In Canada I was educated as a teacher and educational psychologist. My last job there was as home school consultant. In the US I chose not to continue that career. Instead I started a business and worked in sales. For a while I edited an online Newspaper and I built a couple of health information websites (no longer available). I became a massage therapist, and I taught classes at the School of Healing Arts. I was lucky. I was able to retire early, and travel the country full time in an RV.
In the last 20 years of travel, I read, I studied and shared what I learned with interested friends and family. I found that helping others with information was my greatest inspiration for more research. Now I feel it’s time to start a new chapter, where I can truly embrace the joy of being an elder. It is my privilege to share what knowledge and wisdom I spent a lifetime acquiring.

RV Life

My late husband Tim and I started traveling in this Class C in 2003.
My partner Don and I now travel in this motorhome. If you are an RVer you might have seen us on the road!
Living in an RV provides unique opportunities to meet folks from all walks of life. Many friends we made on the road have since “hung up their keys” due to declining health.
The RV lifestyle requires a certain amount of stamina and mobility. As we traveled around, we listened to people’s stories. I realized the important focus in our elder years is maintaining vitality. It is crucial to have the energy to do the things we love.
Pain and chronic illness are an impediment to enjoying life. We’ve had our share of challenges. In this website’s blog posts, I’ll share stories about what we’ve done. I will also share cutting-edge research on longevity that we can all benefit from.
